David Michael Rogge, 88, of Sequim, WA, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. David was born in Dayton, OH on November 13, 1935 to Dorothy Roehem Rogge and Elwood Herman Rogge. David graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1953, then pursued his studies at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering which was followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Delaware.
David married Patience “Payshe” Griffin of Bradford, PA on August 31, 1957, after meeting her on a blind date on February 15 the same year. Until Patience’s untimely death in May 2015, they indulged in their love of travel near and far, enabled by David’s engineering work for Chevron Standard Oil, which took them to the San Francisco Bay Area, Mississippi, Italy, the Bahamas, and Saudi Arabia. They moved to Port Townsend, WA in 1994 following David’s retirement, and continued to travel and to engage with their local community, including participation on the Board of Friends of Fort Worden. In his last decade, David developed meaningful friendships through his grief support group, and following his move to Sequim, WA in 2019, through his daily walks at Carrie Blake Park.
David is survived by his daughters Rachel Rogge of Sequim, WA and Michelle Rogge of Quechee, VT; his sons-in-law, Andrew Recher and Jean-Louis Thauvin; his sister Lisbeth Dambrowski; and his grandchildren Sebastien and Finley Thauvin. David’s wry humor, fondness for baking, and thorough planning skills will be missed.
