Douglas Arthur Crumb

Douglas Arthur Crumb was born on October 9, 1950, in St. Joseph Michigan to Jack and Marion Crumb. When Doug was nine, he and his family moved to Chico California. In 1980 he moved to and resided in Montana until moving back to Chico in 2018 to be closer to family. Doug loved Montana and always felt it was his true home. In June 2020 Doug moved to Port Hadlock Washington to spend his final days with his daughter Amy and Son-in-law Benny, Doug passed away on September 1, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with kidney failure and severe vascular disease.

Doug joined the Navy and served in Vietnam. He served onboard the USS Providence in the Dental and Medical Corps. He had many travels while in the Navy going to Japan and other pacific islands. He had fond memories of sailing into the harbor and attending the Rose parade where the sailors were showered with meals and drinks. When deployed to Vietnam he was in Hyfong Harbor and saw some of the worst depths of the war and did not share much of those memories and preferred to remember only the good times.

Doug attended The University of California, Chico where he majored in environmental studies with his focus to become a game warden. Later, he became a Denturist and received his Ph.D. from Mills Grae University. Doug and 32 others worked hard to have Denturistry recognized as its own profession and, become the first Denturists allow to practice independently without the supervision of a dentist. He was proud and compassionate about his work as a denturist and spent may days on the road going to meetings and attending Montana Legislature hearings to help further advance Denturistry.

Doug had a huge heart and helped so many people along the way. He was kind and giving to anyone that needed a hand up and found joy in helping others. He always saw the good in others and was a good friend to so many. He always knew just the right things to say and had a way of making you feel good about yourself.

When not working, Doug loved to be outdoors and always found a way to pursue his passion for fishing and fly fishing and tied his own flys! He also loved camping, white water rafting, backpacking, hiking, hunting, and golfing with his friends. Doug had an exceptionally large group of friends and was renowned for his Thanksgiving feasts. Doug had a wonderful sense of humor and was often the “life of the Party”. He always had a smile and greeted others with love, hugs, and genuine care for others.

Doug was loved deeply by others and will be deeply missed! The loss of Doug has left a void in many of our hearts. He will be forever missed and will always be remembered by his jovial mood, kindness, his love for others, his kind words, and all the hugs and love that he had for so many!

Doug is survived by his children, Tyler Crumb and Amy Crumb, his father Jack Crumb, brother Dennis Crumb and sister Shelia Crumb. He has a large extended family in Michigan. Doug was proceeded in death by his mother Marion and his brother Lance.

He is now at peace and is no longer in pain. He gets to be reunited with the loved ones that proceeded him as well as all of the beloved furry friends that are waiting for him at the rainbow bridge. Doug would want his family and friends not to be sad with his passing but to love one another and hold each tight, share the good and funny stories, and the good times!
