Edith Joanne Dankert passed away on Monday, April 10th, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on June 8th, 1941 in Ilwaco, Washington, she eventually settled in the Port Angeles area where she spent the rest of her life.
Edith worked as a waitress and then as a shingle packer at Rainier Mill in Port Angeles in her early life, and later became an apartment manager with her husband, while working for Goodwill as well. She was well-known in the community for her open-door policy, compassionate guidance, and loving interest towards all her tenants. Edith cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was renowned for her pineapple upside-down cake and thin hotcakes.
She loved watching the Mariners and listening to music, especially Conway Twitty and Elvis. In her free time, Edith enjoyed gardening and was an avid crossword puzzle and bingo player. Her most defining quality, however, was her unwavering support and fierce loyalty of her family members, encouraging them to follow their dreams and working tirelessly to help them succeed.
Edith is survived by her daughter Jo’El James, her grandchildren Jonathan Schenefeld, Brandy Thorne, and Ashley & Eddy Cawyer, and many great-grandchildren, family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Dankert, her daughter Lisa James and granddaughter Jaedyn Joelle.
Edith will always be remembered for her kind heart, her warmth, and the love she had for her family and friends. While her absence will be deeply felt, she will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
