Elaine Michelle “Michelle” Capell passed away on May 7, 2024, in Silverdale, Washington. She was born on December 13, 1941, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Joseph and Vera Meysenburg.
Michelle was a loyal friend, loved her family and cherished all the moments she spent with them. After the sudden passing of her son, she found comfort in painting and connecting with nature in the Olympic Peninsula.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tomas Carl Capell III “TC”; her father, Joseph Meysenburg; and her mother, Vera Meysenburg.
She is survived by her sister, Nikki (Bruce) Gergenson ; Brian Meysenburg (brother); Monique (Mike) Muhle (sister); Derek (Jenny) Meysenburg (brother) ; her daughter, Jennifer (Nick) Kidd; her grandchildren, Hayley, Tatum, Landon, and Ryker Kidd; and her great-grandchild, Avri Van Matre, along with numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her close friends Sandra (Eric) Capell and Thomas Capell Jr.
Michelle was dedicated to education and learning throughout her life. She graduated from the Naval Technical Training Center as a Cryptologic Technician Technical Base and Field Operations specialist. She later earned a Bachelor of Secondary Education from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in education and Curriculum/Instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Over the course of a 25-year career in education, Michelle taught at Ben Hill Middle School, Monroe Middle School, and Blake Junior High School in Tampa, Florida. Her work earned her numerous awards and accolades. She was a former board member of the Florida Council for Social Studies and was recognized as the Warren Tracy Beginning Teacher of the Year in 1994 and the Sallie Mae First Teacher of the Year for Hillsborough County in 1995.
Michelle loved to travel, and one of her greatest joys was attending all of her son’s baseball games. She also enjoyed writing, photography, music, history, and especially art. In her final days, she found peace in painting, wood burning, and being surrounded by nature.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Linde-Price Funeral Service.
