Evelyn Upham Obituary

Evelyn Ruth (Anderson) Upham

July 30, 1933 - June 26, 2019

Evelyn was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Gerda Matilda Anderson (nee Westring) and Kermit Peter Anderson and passed away after a long illness.  She graduated from Proctor High School in nearby Proctor, Minnesota at the top of her class with the high honor of Salutatorian where she played the clarinet in the school band. The award-winning band travelled around the United States performing including at the Rose Bowl in California.
Following high school, she started college in Glendale, California, studying fashion design where she met and married Bruce El Von Bevers. They moved to several states around the country with his job finally settling on Whidbey Island in Freeland, Washington. She liked the saltwater air of the island beaches.  Here their three children also finished high school.  They owned several businesses including White Acres Nursing Home.  Evelyn did the bookkeeping and made sure they had the things they needed at the nursing home.  She also started taking classes to become a dietitian, although she later changed her direction and eventually graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and passed her Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam.
Evelyn was an excellent cook and tailor.  She compiled and tested many recipes and made delicious meals for family and friends.  She made many of her own and her children’s clothes.  She would knit or crochet while riding in the car or watching TV attributing her talent for sewing to her Great Aunt Helga Johnson (nee Ekeroth), who she lived with for several years.  She started by sewing doll clothes at a young age.
After Evelyn and Bruce divorced and sold the family home, she married David Upham and moved to Marysville, Washington. David and Evelyn moved several times in Washington and Oregon finally settling in Sequim, Washington. She worked as an accountant and did the family taxes. They traveled extensively for vacations, even rafting down the Colorado River for eight days.  They stayed in shape by bicycling and taking aerobics classes together.
Dogs and especially cats were Evelyn’s favorite pets.  She had several Siamese cats, and one in particular called Jojo, a longhaired Siamese was with her many years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband Bruce Bevers.
She is survived by her husband of Sequim, WA,  brother, Dale Roger Anderson (Darlene) of Parker, Colorado, three children; Carlene Bevers Sullivan of Lynnwood,WA, Scott Bevers (Margielyn), of Clinton, WA ,Cherie Bevers of Monroe, WA and two children by marriage; Jon Upham (Kathy) of Colorado Springs, CO. and Sidney Soelter(Clint) of Port Angeles, WA  as well as 16 grandchildren(5 by marriage) and 14 great grandchildren
