George William Bowman went to be with his Lord April 7, 2025, after a short illness at Olympic Medical
Center. George was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Modesto, CA to Jacob and Lucile Bowman. His early
childhood was spent in Ceres, CA where his parents were bankers. At age 11, his parents bought a small
poultry farm in Turlock, CA. After school, George would help gather and clean eggs. In high school, he
took up pole-vaulting and tennis. He played tennis well into his 70’s.
After graduation from Turlock High School in 1950, he attended San Jose State where he joined Sigma Pi fraternity and the ROTC
program. He graduated in 1955 with a BS degree in business administration. He then served in the
Army Special Services in Okinawa, Japan and the Army Reserves. He returned to the poultry farm where
he partnered with his dad until he became owner in the 1960’s. Under George’s management, the
business grew from 100-layer chickens to 125,000-layer chickens. George designed and built 3
automated high-rise chicken houses for modern efficiency.
George married Sharon in 1965 and they were blessed with 3 great boys. He was an avid spectator at their wrestling matches and stage
productions. He liked to engage his friends in games of tennis, ping pong or handball. He was pitcher for
the men’s slow pitch league and last checked still held the record for highest batting average. He found
time to serve as a trustee in their home church of Hilmar Covenant. In 1996, George and Sharon retired
the same day and moved to their home in Trinidad CA where they had spent many summers vacations
sport-fishing. It wasn’t long until George was serving on the City Council as Harbor and Police
Commissioner. In 2006, they decided to relocate to Port Angeles to be near their oldest son and his wife.
George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John, and a son, Jeffrey. He leaves his
wife Sharon, a son, Mark and wife Nancy; a son, Gary and wife Laura and granddaughter Sophia as well
as several dear nephews and nieces.
