Janet Garrett Obituary

Janet Rose Garrett ascended to the arms of the Lord on March 8, 2025. There was never a
sweeter, gentler more loving and accepting soul as Jan. Jan possessed a trait that found the
best in every one she met. She would embrace their diversity, find their talent and draw them
out into a friendly conversation. She had an appreciation for design and an artistic flair. That
manifested in gardening, landscaping, home decor, and her favorite pastime, cross stitching.
She always had a stitching project in the works and her favorites were whimsical Christmas
characters. In retirement she became an avid baker, French Bread was her favorite. Her house
would spill over with the aroma of the best French bakery. She was a soul with so many
talents.
Jan grew up in East Wenatchee, Washington, graduating from Eastmont High School. She was
a middle child with 2 older sisters and a younger brother and sister, there were lots of stories
there and she and her siblings reveled in reliving many of them. Her mother had 10 siblings, so
she grew up with many cousins nearby and she never missed the bi-yearly family reunions
which were monumental In scale. Her family was her world. She loved to play pinochle with
her granny and sisters; board games like Trivial Pursuit and a myriad of other card games with
aunts, uncles and siblings. That gaming tradition continued in later years with her 3 sisters at
her side at the casino. The 4 of them would get together for a yearly “girls only week”, they
had so much fun together that strangers would ask to join their party.
At age 32, when others are content to sit back, she had a desire to go back to school. She
graduated with honors and was hired as a Radiation Therapist at Meridian Park Hospital in
Tualatin, OR then at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland where she
retired in 2020. She was a highly regarded therapist that was compassionate with patients and
a trusted colleague; one co-worker told me that a common phrase in the department when a
problem occurred was “what would Janet do?”
Janet was born March 21,1955 to Darneal Daggett and Martha Monnot of East Wenatchee.
Janet and Jim Garrett were married March 8, 1986 and lived in East Wenatchee, Wa,
Vancouver, Wa, and Sequim, Wa. Janet is survived by husband Jim, Sequim, Wa, sisters Kate
Harris, East Wenatchee, Wa, Donna Cassidy, (Michael) Napavine, Wa, Pamela Lamb (Maynard)
Reardan, Wa. and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
