Norman Edward Lanning passed away peacefully on the evening of March 8, 2024. He was born November 9, 1928, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Harry Welcome Lanning and Persa Eleanor McQuilliam.
Norman earned his master’s degree in education and taught instrumental music and history for 34 years.
Norm enjoyed Louis L’Amour, John Philip Sousa, The Music Man and of course angel food cake.
Norm was most proud of his seven children, his daughters: Pamela (Jim) Straw, Jennifer Lanning, Anette Lanning, Kari Lanning and Kristine Lanning(deceased). His sons: Eric Lanning and Kevin Lanning and his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Norm was an avid traveler, throughout his years he had visited all 50 states and 75 countries all of which were traveled with his friend, companion and partner of 43 years, Suzy Wing. Out of all beautiful places Norm traveled, Thailand was his favorite.
In true Norm fashion, he won a dancing competition in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, just one month before he passed. He will be dearly missed by his family, his many friends both locally and from Cabo San Lucas. Norm will be remembered for his quick wit and gentle manner, “Oh boy!”
