Verna Jean (Chaussee) Edwards peacefully passed away April 10, 2025. Verna was born June 11, 1930, in Hoquiam, Washington to Armedas and Ethel (Trostle) Chaussee. She was the youngest child of this union with an older brother, Wilfred “Sonny” Chaussee. Their father died when she was two years old. Verna became a big sister at age 16 to Mary Gosso. The family moved to Salem, Oregon after Verna graduated from Hoquiam High School.
Verna worked as a telephone operator connecting calls by inserting a pair of phone plugs into the appropriate jacks. She carried these skills on to work at Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Port Angeles.
Family was always important to Verna. It was family, her cousin Frank, that brought his good friend, Bob, to visit and introduce her to the love of her life. Verna married Robert “Bob” Wellington Edwards on September 20, 1952. They enjoyed 66 years together before Bob’s passing in 2018. This union produced 4 children: Renie, Paul, Jeff and Jean.
Faith and family were the core of Verna’s existence. She was very involved in the First Baptist Church of Port Angeles. Her faithful service to God was witnessed by her daily devotion and Bible reading, her involvement in Church Family and support of Young Life.
She is survived by her children; Renie (Les) Hall, Paul (Deb) Edwards, Jeff (Cindy) Edwards and Jean Edwards, her grandchildren; Amanda, Keith, Kellen, Kim, Derek and Meredith, her great grandsons; Oscar and Arlo and sister, Mary. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her great granddaughter, Magnolia and brother, Sonny.
A service will be held at 1:00, June 7 at the First Baptist Church in Port Angeles. Donations may be made in her honor to Clallam County Volunteer Hospice or Young Life.
